Apparently Mink never felt compelled to paint a blue sky.
"Ferguson's Crossing"
Mink painted several versions of this subject. A particularly large one hung on the wall of a Bryan, Texas, bank.
The grass along the road is drawn into the paint with the unbristled end of the brush. This technique can also be found in work by Oskar Kokoschka.

7 CLOWNS
Mink loved the work of Alexander Calder. He constructed moving wire scultptures powered by a small electric motor, but unfortunately we have no photos of that. He saw the documentary film "Circus" in which Calder laid out and played with all of his hand-made circus performers and animals. Perhaps this is an influence on the clown series.
