Identifying an original Mink may be difficult. Mink used many styles and sometimes even imitated other artists such as Toulouse Lautrec or Picasso. Mink's subjects were varied. including marine scenes, historic events, landscapes, still lifes, nudes, portraits, and abstracts. Mink's works in the 1960s are usually signed MINK (all caps) followed by the abbreviated year like this: "MINK '64." Although most are signed, many are not dated. Some etchings done while Mink was taking classes at Sam Houston State College were signed J. Gary Minkert. Some drawings from the 1940s are signed J. G. Minkert. In 2014 the family received a communication from someone who found a mural of warplanes signed "mink." Although it is hard to imagine anyone else using that name and painting Naval warplanes circa 1944, we could not verify a signature in lower case letters. We have no other example of that signature or record of that mural.
